Holiday Party Catering in the Bay Area: Tapas, Paella & Good Company

Planning a company holiday party, a client appreciation event or a celebration at home? Start with how you want the evening to feel, not just what you want to serve. An opening hour of tapas, paella for dinner and a churro dessert bar gives the party a natural progression: time to mingle, a meal to gather around and a sweet finish. At Ñora Spanish Catering, we build corporate celebrations and private parties around your guests, your space and how much help you need.

Start with tapas and let people settle in
Give guests something to eat while everyone arrives. Passed appetizers bring the food to the conversation, while stationary tapas let people explore at their own pace. A Spanish-inspired grazing table takes that a step further: cheeses, charcuterie, olives, preserves and small bites become both an appetizer spread and a centerpiece. It gives people somewhere to gather without asking everyone to sit down immediately.
The trick is to plan this opening hour as part of dinner, not a separate feast. Choose enough variety to keep things interesting while leaving room for paella. Keep the grazing table away from the bar queue, provide places to set down a glass, and choose bites that are manageable while standing. Share dietary requirements early so every guest has a complete meal to look forward to, not just a few things they can pick around.

Paella is part of the show
Tapas followed by paella works because the two courses do different jobs. Tapas encourage movement and conversation; paella brings everyone together for something more substantial. When the venue allows live cooking, that transition happens in front of your guests. The pans, the aromas and the sight of dinner coming together give people something to enjoy beyond another round of small talk. Our guide to how live paella catering works explains the setup.
No room for live cooking? That does not rule out paella. We can work from a suitable kitchen or bring the food freshly prepared and ready for service. The right approach depends on your venue’s facilities, access and cooking rules, not simply whether there is room for a large pan. Talk to your Ñora event coordinator before ruling anything out. There are plenty of catering and service options, and the party does not have to revolve around an outdoor cooking setup.

What an AI-generated party plan might miss
You may already be using AI to brainstorm holiday party ideas, compare caterers or sketch out a timeline. That is a useful starting point. But a suggested schedule is not the same as a plan for your particular room. Where will guests put their plates? Will the dinner line block the bar? Who is clearing glasses while everyone moves on to dessert? Those details deserve as much attention as the menu.
Before adding another dish or decoration, walk through the evening with your coordinator. Confirm setup access, a weather backup where needed, seating, rentals and who handles cleanup. Our event staffing guide is a helpful starting point for deciding how much support to arrange. And coordinate speeches with dinner service: a warm welcome is lovely; a surprise twenty-minute speech while dinner waits is less so.

Finish with churros, not another formal course
A dessert bar with churros lets guests return to mingling rather than settle in for another seated course. Add a few smaller sweets for variety and let people choose their own finish. We can also arrange live flamenco, with the performance planned around the meal and the atmosphere you want to create.
For a 6 p.m. party, one possible flow is tapas and drinks on arrival, a brief welcome toward the end of that first hour, paella around 7 and dessert around 8. Treat that as a starting point, not a rigid schedule. The goal is to give the evening some shape without making a celebration feel like another meeting.

Taking a more DIY approach?
Start with the beverage calculator linked in our drinks planning guide, then adjust the estimate for your guests and event length. Think beyond bottles: ice, water, appealing nonalcoholic drinks and enough glassware all belong on the shopping or rental list. Our sangria recipe is another option for hosts handling their own beverages. Confirm your venue’s outside-alcohol policy before buying anything, and ask your coordinator where a little service support would be most useful.
Still looking for a holiday party venue?
Our Berkeley restaurants, Mile Limit Wine Bar and La Marcha Tapas Bar, are options too. Think Mediterranean plates and a wine-focused gathering at Mile Limit, or Spanish tapas and paella at La Marcha. Ask our team about the right fit for your guest count, preferred format and date, including private-event and buyout options.
There is no single formula for a great holiday party. Start with your date, approximate guest count, location and budget, and we can work through the rest together. Whether you need food delivered or help coordinating the entire evening, request a holiday party proposal and tell us what you have in mind.
